Michael Snare retires after 36 years with Mutual Benefit Group

Michael Snare of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, retired from his position as Director of Claims with Mutual Benefit Group on April 4 after 36 years of service.
Mike joined the company in 1989 as a Commercial Lines Underwriter. In 1992, he moved to the Claims Department as a Claims Representative. Since then, he has served the Claims Department in several other roles, including Multi-Line Field Representative, Senior Multi-Line Field Representative, Multi-Line Claims Supervisor and Director of Claims.
A graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, Mike completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management at Liberty University. During his career at Mutual Benefit, he earned two insurance industry designations: the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1996 and the Associate in Claims (AIC) in 1999.
Mike is an Elder at Community Chapel of Hesston, and he serves as the Adult Sunday School teacher. He is also an active member of his community, volunteering as Youth coach at the Huntingdon Community Center for baseball, softball, soccer, wrestling and basketball; serving as a Little League baseball coach and helping out as Teener League baseball manager.
Mike plans to continue roasting coffee for a local coffee shop and hopefully provide coffee beans to other business operations. He is also looking forward to having more time for his hobbies of running, disc golf and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren
“I have enjoyed my career here at MBG,” Mike said “Obviously over a 36-year time period, many changes have taken place, including all paper files to 100% electronic files, all processes being manually performed to mostly computer generated. Who would have thought that working from home (remote) would have been a possibility? Claims work has been part of my life for over three decades. Claims is NOT easy, but it is rewarding when you have the claims team that I have had the privilege to work with for my entire career.”
When asked for words of wisdom to leave for his coworkers, Mike said, “We sell a promise to policyholders called an insurance policy. Few in the insurance industry have actually read the policy that we sell. Learn to read the policy and be familiar with the policy and you will quickly be an ‘expert.’ Reading the insurance policy will set you apart from others and you will become the ‘go to’ person who can provide answers to those with questions.”
